Much like our lactation support directory, our PA doula/midwife directory is simply a starting point to help growing families locate local doulas (birth and postpartum doulas), midwives, and childbirth educators in the state of Pennsylvania. Although many doulas in the list have been submitted by happy clients and colleagues, those listed have not been screened by Dr.MOZ and are not endorsed by us. What is a doula? Doulas are trained to provide emotional and physical support to a laboring woman and her partner. Although very few doulas have medical training, some are nurse-midwives and do have additional training and medical experience. When choosing a doula, we recommend that you and your partner discuss your needs with your family health care provider to help determine what kind of training and background your doula should have because your situation may require special attention. Your doula will be with you and your partner throughout labor and birth, so be sure that you also screen the potential doula about other issues that may be important to you to ensure your comfort during the big event.
