The Maine Moose Goes Global
2004: With little more than an old laptop and a lot of moxie
(as the "Mainers" would say)
current President
Jason Baxter made the 3,182
mile move from Northern California to Portland, Maine
to launch a unique health-based new media company Dr.MOZ LLC. Between
thousands of perilous show-shoveling expeditions between his front-door
and driveway, Jason embarked on his new company aiming to release
the flagship gift product which would be the first parenting guide
of it's kind.
2005: In January 2005, the work of approximately thirty
specialists (writers, animators, illustrators,
licensed nurse-midwives, experienced fathers, grandfathers, voice
actors, sound engineers, programmers, and editors) finally
came together as The
GoodFather gift CD-ROM. This would be the world's first
interactive and entertaining guide created to help new and expecting
fathers prepare for their important new role as "dad."
It might also be important to note that these useful baby lessons
and parenting tools would be offered by illustrated mobsters. The
GoodFather gift CD-ROM was nationally released in January, 2005
in the middle of winter. The "national" release started
with a single, ice-covered store "Just
Maine Made" at 553 Congress Street in Portland,
Maine.
2006-2007: Distribution rapidly extended throughout America
and was eventually adopted in a few popular baby boutique in Canada
as The GoodFather gift CD-ROM's buzz grew. The line soon grew to
include the sling-style daddy diaper bag gift combos "The
PaPa Pack", and the GoodFather
daddy T-shirts.
In addition to Dr.MOZ's retail product line, their digital portfolio
also grew to include a variety online
parenting resources hosted on the main site from doula/midwife
directories and baby name lists to popular parenting blog "Dear
Dr.MOZ". Inspired by the "old timey"
Q & A newspaper columns of the past, the moose M.D. and his
team of contributors take questions related to parenting, baby tips,
and other topics relevant to growing families. Dr.MOZ always has
a fun giveaway
in the works where thousands of readers enter to win
from partner companies of all sizes from start-ups to major international
corporations.
Today: Dr.MOZ's offices are located in Sonoma, California
where the team is working on the next generation of health-focused
interactive elixirs and modern gear for the entire family. The company
recently released the first three of their Stork
Tools™ brand messenger-style
daddy diaper bags designed to be feature-rich and competitively
priced gear for active parents.
As
seen in an increasing number of major news and entertainment
publications around the world (Parents,
The Chicago Tribune, FineLiving, Châtelaine, MSNBC.com, and
